Prince George's officials want Canadian drugs
Some Prince George's County lawmakers want the country to look at buying prescription drugs from Canada in an effort to save money.
The Examiner reports two members of the County Council introduced a resolution recently that would create a task force to study the matter.
If approved, an 11 member task force made up of pharmaceutical, health and benefits experts would study the pros and cons.
Montgomery County lawmakers have already approved legislation that allows for the import of prescription drugs for its employees and retirees from Canada.
The county expects to save about $15 million a year.
Saying it can't ensure the medication's safety, the United States of America Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is against buying drugs from Canadian sources.
